HOLE-ALUR(GADAG): Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that he will ensure early release of 1.9 TMC of water from the Koyna reservoir in Maharashtra.

He added that the state government will provide monetary compensation to its Maharashtra counterpart for the water.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, during his second visit to drought-hit districts, he said, “The Maharashtra government has some confusions… obtaining water is the need of the hour, which needs to be done diplomatically.”

He also said the state government will convey its situation to the Andhra Pradesh government and make it clear that it cannot release  any water.

“I have instructed officials to dig more borewells and open Goshalas (cow sheds). Waiver of crop loans is under consideration,” he added.

The chief minister refused to comment on his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa’s statement that some of his believers cheated him.

He conducted a closed-door meeting with district officials and elected representatives at Inspection Bungalow after reviewing lake development works being carried out under Rajiv Gandhi submission scheme.

“The agriculture department is ready to meet the requirement of seeds, as good rain has been forecast in the near future.”

Meanwhile, the CM handed over keys to Asare houses built by Mysore Citizens Forum and JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore, to those displaced by floods recently.

Gowda refused to receive garlands from party workers in Nagendragad, and warned against the trend.
