Railway’s fault

With response to your article “Jump! Escape! They are here!” (BM, April 26)This is a routine raid that railway officials conduct often. But one cannot understand that why such raids don’t affect ticketless passengers.
Here I feel the mistake is that of the railway department. Because TTEs (Travelling Ticket Examiners) won’t check ordinary coaches daily. There is also a reason. If they do it daily, then there won’t be any offenders as well. But TTEs have to pay some pre-determined amount to the department on a monthly basis. It is said that every TTE has to pay Rs 10,000 to 25,000 according to their working headquarters!
The department has been giving the reason of lack of staff to conduct such raids since many decades. As a result, the genuine ticket/pass holders commuters cannot enjoy a comfortable journey. They have to share the bogies with a whole lot of people who are travelling without tickets.
